The “Tozer Devotional” was really good a few days ago. I commend it to you.

Many a man of God is being subjected to cruel pressure by the ill-taught members of his flock who scorn his slow methods and demand quick results and a popular following regardless of quality.

I take this review of The Nativity Story to be anecdotal evidence of at least three truths: 1) Christians have bad taste in movies (as they seem to be the only ones raging about this thing, by and large); 2) if you want Christians’ money, make a movie about a Bible story or some other theme you arbitrary call ‘redemptive’; and 3) this whole “engaging the culture” thing really doesn’t seem to be working. Speaking of sucker-punching Christians into going to certain movies, here you can see the “response of faith leaders” to the upcoming film, Rocky Balboa, including information on how to use it as an “effective outreach tool.”

I also want to give an update on the “Classic Christian Writers Podcast.” I am not giving up, but I am feeling, for lack of a better word, “swamped” right now. I fully intend to continue the project and finish Christianity & Liberalism, but I feel it would be wreckless to work on that at the present time. “Stay tuned.”

Finally, what do all of you think of the words to the carol, “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella”?

1. Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabella
Bring a torch, to the cradle run!
It is Jesus, good folk of the village;
Christ is born and Mary’s calling;
Ah! ah! beautiful is the Mother
Ah! ah! beautiful is her Son!

2. It is wrong when the Child is sleeping
It is wrong to talk so loud;
Silence, all, as you gather around.
Lest your noise should waken Jesus.
Hush! hush! see how fast He slumbers!
Hush! hush! see how fast He sleeps!

3. Hasten now, good folk of the village;
Hasten now the Christ Child to see.
You will find Him asleep in the manger;
Quietly come and whisper softly,
Hush! hush! Peacefully now He slumbers.
Hush! hush! Peacefully now He sleeps.

4. Softly to the little stable.
Softly for a moment come;
Look and see how charming is Jesus
How He is white, His cheeks are rosy!
Hush! hush! see how the Child is sleeping;
Hush! hush! see how He smiles in his dreams.
